Description
G.R.P. (fibreglass) panels mounted on powder-coated steel legs offer the toughest, most resilient form of construction for information and interpretation panels and use techniques which have been specified for a wide range of locations including urban, rural and coastal environments for many years. Your artwork is embedded between layers of fibreglass creating an amazing UV fade-resistant panel that is durable, easy to clean and guaranteed to withstand normal outdoor light and weather conditions for a minimum of 10 years.
Standard specification includes:
- Weatherproof and vandal-resistant
- 10 year guarantee against fading in normal external light and weather conditions
- Full-colour digital print embedded in fibreglass to create durable, fade-resistant panel
- Easy to clean and resistant to surface damage – encapsulation ensures that the print is below the surface for additional protection
- Lectern legs constructed in sturdy powder-coated steel
Suitable for even the most challenging locations, these lectern-mounted information and interpretation panels use tried and tested materials and construction techniques which have been widely adopted and can be seen in parks, public spaces, nature reserves and heritage sites across the length and breadth of the U.K. Designed to be virtually maintenance-free, the methods of construction and materials used in these lectern panels mean that there should be little to do beyond giving them an occasional wipe down to keep them clean, thus also ensuring that whole-life costs are kept to a minimum.
Options include:
- Choice of colours for steel legs and g.r.p. carrier panel border

Delivery
Our preferred method of delivery will vary depending upon a number of factors including the weights of individual items in the consignment and the delivery address. The delivery method will be stated in our Order Confirmation. The usual methods of delivery for items up to 35kg and those exceeding 35kg are detailed below but please be aware that different arrangements may apply to remote areas and offshore islands. Exceptionally, if the size of an individual order or the mileage involved warrant it, we may opt to use a dedicated courier.
Orders where no single item exceeds 35kg are usually despatched via a UK nationwide courier on an overnight service, i.e. the consignment leaves us one day and you receive it on the next working day (Monday to Friday). As soon as your order is completed, we will contact you to arrange a suitable delivery day when someone will be available to receive it. All deliveries require a signature. Please note that this is NOT a timed delivery service and delivery could occur any time between 08:00 and 17:00 on the chosen day.
We appreciate that there is nothing more frustrating than having to set aside a whole day to receive a parcel, so if this is an issue, there are a number of possible work-arounds.
Firstly, it is generally possible to request a before 12:00 or before 10:30 delivery slot but this will attract an additional charge. If a timed delivery is essential please call us on 01280 701093 to place your order.
Secondly, it is sometimes possible for us to get the driver to contact you, say 30 minutes ahead of delivery, with an estimated arrival time. This is sometimes useful for deliveries to churches, village halls etc. when you are close-by but not at the delivery location. It must be stressed however that there is no contractual obligation for the courier to do this and whether or not it happens will depend upon the goodwill of the driver concerned.
Thirdly, exceptionally and not recommended, it may be possible for you to nominate a “safe place” where the parcel can be left without being signed for but please be aware that in choosing this option, you assume full responsibility for the condition of the item as delivered as no claims for damage can be entertained for items received without a signature.
Orders where one or more items exceed 35kg are usually delivered by a specialist 2-man delivery team. As soon as your order is completed, we will contact you to let you know that it is being collected by our chosen specialist courier and shortly thereafter they will contact you directly to make final arrangements for the delivery.
Do I get a layout proof?
Yes, on receipt of your order we will produce and send you a proof layout for approval. The job isn’t put into production until you have checked and signed this off, so you will have the opportunity to amend anything that needs changing.
What about installation?
Installation is designed to be as straightforward as possible and, in most cases, should be well within the capabilities of anyone competent at DIY. All lecterns are supplied with the necessary fixings.
The majority of our customers either undertake installation themselves or arrange for it to be carried out by a local contractor as this generally proves to be the most cost-effective method. We are however able to offer an installation service covering much of the UK if required. If this is of interest, please call us on 01280 701093 for details.
What is the lead time for production of an information/interpretation panel?
This depends upon a number of factors but we usually quote approximately 6 weeks from receipt of layout approval. If you have a project with a tighter deadline, please contact us to discuss it and we will do our utmost to assist if we can.
What is the lifespan of g.r.p. embedded graphics?
First developed over 40 years ago, the techniques used to produce these panels are tried and tested and have withstood the test of time. The graphic element is produced using UV pigmented inks and is embedded approximately 1mm beneath the surface, thus further enhancing protection from the effects of sunlight, weather and vandalism. Originally screenprinted, panels are now produced using modern inkjet technology and whilst no manufacturer can provide guarantees on differential fading (due to different areas of a panel being subjected to differing degrees of exposure to sunlight) these panels are guaranteed for a period of 10 years under normal light and weather conditions.
How vandal-proof are embedded graphics?
Because the printed element is embedded beneath approximately 1mm of fibreglass it remains extremely resistant to damage (both accidental and deliberate) whether this be as a result of abrasion, graffiti or cigarette burns.
What artwork is required?
For details of how to plan and design your artwork, please see our separate pdf document which can be found by clicking on the “Info Sheets” tab above.
Is it possible to make changes to the information on these panels?
In short, no! The fact that the printed element is embedded beneath g.r.p. during the production process guarantees its resistance to both damage and fading, but also means that the only way to make any changes once a lectern is installed is to replace the whole panel (excluding legs) – so proofread your artwork carefully!
Can I have a portrait format panel?
Yes. In fact we can manufacture panels to any size to special order. For further information, please contact our sales team on 01280 701093 with details of your requirements.
10-year Guarantee:
Each Greenbarnes steel/g.r.p. interpretation panel comes with a 10-year guarantee on the quality of workmanship and materials used. We guarantee to the original purchaser that our steel/g.r.p interpretation panels are free from defects in material and workmanship. “Defect” is defined as any imperfection which impairs the normal use of the board. This guarantee is expressly limited to the labour and material costs of repair within 10 years of the date of despatch and excludes the following:
1] Defects caused by the improper assembly, installation or disassembly.
2] Defects occurring after purchase as a result of lack of maintenance as prescribed in the relevant maintenance instructions, unauthorised product modification, intentional damage, misuse, abuse or negligence.
3] Cosmetic damage.
4] Labour costs incurred in returning the board to us.
Important information on the lifespan of print:
Different exposure levels to sunlight depend upon a number of factors including location, orientation and altitude, thus making it difficult for ink manufacturers to give precise life span guarantees for their inks. No one can give guarantees on differential fading if part of an image is less exposed to the elements than the rest due to being covered. Similarly, it is known that some colours fade more rapidly than others.
The techniques used to produce these panels have been used for over 40 years although traditional screenprinting has now been replaced by inkjet printing using UV pigmented inks. The resulting panels are embedded 1mm below the surface in g.r.p. resin thus affording extra protection against fading and surface damage.
Images can therefore be guaranteed over a period of 10 years under normal U.K. light and weather conditions.
